When I got these I was excited, so excited in fact, that I made a cake right away. I had no cake mix so I had to make it by scratch. I was going a little extreme so my car didn't turn out perfect. I attempted to divide the batter into three and dye each one a different color. I ended up with more of one color and not enough of another. Oh well.
However, the homemade cake mixture was a lot thicker, so I didn't have the same problems as the other reviewers. I also pushed down on the divider (didn't need to, it sat very well inside the pan) and spoon the mixture in. After a few shakes and taps I could pull the divider out and have a very nice looking unbaked cake. The cake came out well (the one layer that came out). The divider does have to be rinsed after every pan is prepared or colors may mix. I ended up doing all three layers individually in my oven.
Make sure you line or grease these pans to death. I used parchment paper in the bottom and greased and floured...Read more

This cake was a hit. I got the pan for only $14 here on amazon.
Repeating what another person wrote, spray the heck out of the pans! Also spray the red thingy that separates the mixes so they don't mix. I used baker's spray or Pam. No matter what I did, they still kinda mixed a little bit at the bottom. -- If you have someone who can stand there and hold the red separater part in place, you might have better luck than I did. Also, you need two cake mix boxes (if you use the box mix) and should make both mixes before you start the job.
You place the red thing in the pan, fill in the areas. Take the red thing out, wash completey then respray it. Put it in the next pan, repeat. Then make the third pan use opposite cake mixes.
I put up a bunch of photos to give you an insight on how I made the cakes.
-- NOTE: If I could make an improvement, I would somehow make the red part a tighter lock when placed in the pan AND a measuring mark so you know...Read more

As soon as I got my new cake pan I tried it out for a friend's party. It worked really well and everyone was aksing how I got the checkerboard look. I woudl sugggest when making your cake batter, that you dont make it too thick as that makes it harder to pour into the cavities.
I am very happy with my purchase.
