Here's what to do: find a metal tumbler (like the annodized retro-tumblers of the 1950's), or use any clean, heat tolerant container (preferably, tapered, and not too heavy) and be sure to grease and flower the outside of it and carefully nestle it at least half way down in the batter in the center of the igloo. Then bake it as directed. The cake will have an empty place in the center (as igloos do, anyway) and you can use your imagination as to what kind of a tasty filler you like to fill the void with, OR, leave it just as it is! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Nordic Ware Igloo Pan (Kitchen) I am verifying the previous review...
This pan has a problem with it. By the time the center of the cake is done, the outside is either dry or burnt to a crisp. If you are baking a regular cake...the outsides will be dry. If you are baking a Christmas cake that has "spirits" in it :).....it will be burnt (because drunken cakes typically require longer bake times). I have many many Nordicware pans and have never had a problem with any of them. This one, however, is a total failure.I have tried to use it numerous times with no success. Quite a shame since the Nordicware name typically comes with high-quality bakeware, and the shape of the pan is ridiculously cute for winter. Nordicware should have put the typical bundt-pan center into this pan. I will try the previous reviewer's suggestion before scraping this pan. But buyer beware if you don't want to deal with trying to 'make it work'...Read more 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Nordic Ware Igloo Pan (Kitchen) This is a wonderful idea for a Pan, however to make it look correct you need to add 1/2 more of the normal cake batter and then the cooking time can be up to an hour....however this makes hard and crusty....don't get me wrong it looks great however if you want to frost it, when then it takes away from the design. This will be better with some type of tube on the inside like a bunt. This is one of the items that once you use once...you may never use again...... |
