This looks great online but does not bake nor come out as pretty as the picture shows. The star is a 1/4 inch and the middle of the cake is 4 inches. The star was burnt and the middle was not done. I will still try to prefect this, somehow.

There is no way to get this cake to turn out correctly. It was a disappointing mess. Waste of batter, waste of time.

I made this cake recently but did not get the star to come out. The cake came out as detailed as the picture. I used spray pam then dusted with flour. I would suggest maybe after the cake is baked to use melted chocolate poured into the star with a sucker stick in it. just pour melted chocolate in the star and let set. Then when cake is finished top it off with your star. I make cakes professionally and have found this tree to be useful on many different cakes. Let your imagination go!!! Another trick would be to use fondant in the mold. Would work just as well.
