I purchased this adorable rabbit mold to use instead of the lamb mold for my Easter Cakes this year. Well, I ended up making the lamb cakes anyway. Only three out of 10 of the rabbits remained standing. I tried three different cake batters, used wooden skewers to help stabalize it and frosted his feet to the plate, all to no avail. I was sorely dissapointed, because the ones that did stay standing were truly adorable. They need to re-tool this mold so that the feet are wider to help balance the top. If anyone out there was successful with this mold, please tell me the secret since I would love to make him next Easter.
Great mold, support tip,

I was hesitant to buy this mold after reading the reviews that the cake is top heavy and often falls but I love these molds and bought it thinking I could overcome the problem. I did and the cake came out perfect with no problems standing even bringing it in the car and to a party. To better support the cake I placed two metal supporters on the cake plate and placed the finished cooled cake into them. I covered them with coconut that I dyed green to look like grass and you couldn't see them. The metal supports I used were actually doll stands that I bought at a craft store and slightly modified to work for this purpose. I also did put a half of a chopstick in the ears for extra support too. Worked great! With a little extra effort you'll have an impressive cake.

I plan to use this bunny mold for a bread lamb. I think the legs would definitely collapse using a cake recipe even if the cake is a pound cake recipe. Also, my son is going to make a little cardboard prop under the legs to prevent the bread from collapsing too. I might even put some meringue on the cardboard and stick on some green easter grass and jelly beans around the feet. I already have an old nordic pan which is similar to this one but there isn't a gap between the front and back legs. I use candied cherries for the eyes and nose. It's very cute! There is a wilton sitting down bunny I have used for cake recipes. Try chocolate pound cake with the whipped meringue frosting and coconut.
